Synergistic Mineral Toxin Binder — Your Ultimate Solution for Feed Safety

ToxyFix is a synergistic blend of specifically selected binders featuring mineral components known as HSCAS (Hydrated Sodium Calcium Aluminosilicate). These minerals effectively adsorb polar mycotoxins including Aflatoxin, Ochratoxin and Zearalenone. Registered by EFSA for the reduction of mycotoxin contamination in feed (category 1, functional group m, EU No. 1060/2013).

Avantages Clés

  • Aflatoxins B1 B2 G1 G2 — 100% adsorption
  • Ochratoxin OTA — 29% deactivation
  • Zearalenone ZEN — 72% deactivation

How It Works

ToxyFix uses Hydrated Sodium Calcium Aluminosilicate (HSCAS), a naturally occurring clay mineral with a layered platy structure and negative surface charge. When mixed into feed, the HSCAS particles create electrostatic and van der Waals interactions with polar mycotoxins such as aflatoxin B1, trapping them within the interlayer spaces of the clay structure and carrying them safely through the gastrointestinal tract without absorption.

The mechanism is particularly effective for aflatoxins because their planar furan ring structure fits precisely into the HSCAS adsorption sites. For zearalenone, which is less polar, the 72% deactivation rate reflects partial adsorption that is still operationally significant in feed safety protocols. Ochratoxin A presents a greater challenge due to its phenylalanine moiety; ToxyFix reduces its bioavailability through a combination of physical adsorption and competitive binding inhibition, but operators handling OTA-prone ingredients should consider ToxyFix Plus for enhanced coverage.

Mycotoxin Risks in Feed Raw Materials

Aflatoxin B1, produced by Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus, is the most acutely toxic mycotoxin in poultry and ruminant feed. Chronic exposure at sub-lethal doses causes liver damage, immunosuppression, and reduced egg production in layers. In dairy cattle, aflatoxin M1 — the metabolite excreted in milk — presents a food safety risk for human consumers.

Corn, cottonseed meal, and peanut meal are the raw materials most frequently contaminated with aflatoxin. VeritasVet recommends including ToxyFix at preventive dosages of 1–2.5 kg/tonne of feed when sourcing from regions with known aflatoxin prevalence, including sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.

Zearalenone, produced by Fusarium graminearum, is particularly relevant in wheat, barley, and corn. It has estrogenic effects that manifest as reproductive disorders in sows and gilts, and as vulvar swelling and reduced conception rates in dairy cattle. Deoxynivalenol (DON), also from Fusarium species, causes feed refusal, vomiting, and impaired immune response across species.

Dosage & Application

Standard inclusion rate: 1.0–2.5 kg per tonne of complete feed, adjusted based on raw material mycotoxin testing results and regional risk assessment. For routine prevention in low-risk regions, 0.5–1 kg/tonne may be sufficient. For known contaminated lots or during harvest seasons with elevated fungal pressure, use the upper range of 2–2.5 kg/tonne.

ToxyFix is supplied in powder form for straightforward mixing into compound feed or premixes. For premix manufacturers, typical inclusion of the premix itself is 5–10 kg/tonne of final feed, ensuring uniform distribution throughout the batch.

For complex or multi-mycotoxin contamination scenarios: See ToxyFix Plus for an enhanced binder blend with broader spectrum coverage. Also explore VersaMold for mould prevention strategies that reduce mycotoxin formation at the feed production stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of mycotoxins does ToxyFix adsorb?

ToxyFix uses HSCAS (Hydrated Sodium Calcium Aluminosilicate) clay technology to adsorb aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, G2, and provides partial deactivation of Ochratoxin A and Zearalenone. It is registered with EFSA (EU No. 1060/2013) as a category 1 functional group mycotoxin binder for feed.

Is ToxyFix registered for use in the European Union?

Yes, ToxyFix is registered with EFSA under EU No. 1060/2013 as a category 1 functional group mycotoxin binder for feed. It is approved for use in poultry, ruminants, and other livestock species across all EU member states.

Can ToxyFix be used in organic livestock production?

ToxyFix is a mineral-based HSCAS clay product. For organic production, certification depends on the specific organic standard body. Operators should verify with their organic certification agency whether HSCAS clay is permitted under their specific organic program requirements.

What is the recommended inclusion rate for ToxyFix in poultry feed?

The standard inclusion rate is 1.0–2.5 kg per tonne of complete feed. For routine prevention in low-risk regions, 0.5–1 kg/tonne may be sufficient. For known contaminated lots or during harvest seasons with elevated fungal pressure, use 2–2.5 kg/tonne.

Does ToxyFix affect vitamin and mineral absorption in feed?

ToxyFix is designed to selectively adsorb mycotoxins while minimizing interference with fat-soluble vitamins and minerals. At recommended inclusion rates (1–2.5 kg/tonne), any minor nutrient interaction is far outweighed by the protective benefits against mycotoxin-induced intestinal damage and reduced nutrient absorption.
